Inle Lake is a vast freshwater lake located in the heart of Shan State (a province in the eastern part of Myanmar). About 900 meters above sea level, it is the second largest lake in Myanmar. Located in the mountains, Inle Lake is therefore cooler than other areas in Myanmar. It ranks among Myanmar's top five tourist attractions. It takes about 20 minutes by taxi from Heho Airport to Nyaung Shwe (a small town near Inle Lake).

Stilt houses are common in Inle Lake. They are restaurants, souvenir shop and home.

The passage will not be blocked.

The lake is clean and green in colour. It is rich in plankton, reeds and fishes.

Floating garden of tomato is a plantation plan of the Myanmar Government. This photo is taken while we are on the boat.

Fishermen start working (fishing) at about 0700 and 0800 in the morning. They are still wearing Longyi when fishing. FYI, longyi is not common in Yangon. Normally, the people in Yangon are dressed in western style.

The boat is not motorized.

Taking a rest is needed.

Fishermen are known for practising a distinctive rowing style which involves standing at the stern on one leg and wrapping the other leg around the oar. This unique style evolved for the reason that the lake is covered by reeds and floating planting making it difficult to see above them while sitting. Standing provides the rower with a view beyong the reeds. However, the leg rowing style is only practised by the men. Women row in the customary style, using the oar with their hands, sitting cross legged at the stern.
