U Bein Bridge @ Myanmar

U Bein Bridge (U Bein's Bridge) in Amarapura should be one of the top five tourist attractions in Myanmar. It is also one of the most important reasons for us to visit Myanmar in 2010. It takes about one and a half hour travel by vehicle from Mandalay.

If not because of its special feature and the fact that it is very beautiful and unusual, U Bein Bridge would not be selected to be the photo on the front cover of Lonely Planet - Myanmar (Burma).

It was constructed in 1849. Taking nearly two years to finish, it was opened in 1851. It has constantly been in use by the people and in recent years by tourists also. There are altogether 1086 posts for the whole bridge.

U Bein Bridge has a length of 1.2 km, crossing the shallow Taungthaman Lake (Taung-tha-man Lake). It is the longest teak bridge in the world. There are nine passageways for large boats.

A photo similar to the one on the cover of Lonely Planet is needed.
