Each of us can share a small bowl of “Lanzhou” Tan Tan Noodle in Spicy Soup $22

Dumpling in Chili $32 is not too spicy. The diameter is about 4 cm. I personally perfer the one in smaller size in other restaurants.

Bean Curd Sheet with Young Cabbage $52. Bean curd sheet is my favorite.

Five Spiced Sesame Chicken – Half
$64 has an alluring soy sauce smell when it is served to us.

Braised Spare Rib with Special Vinegar
$55 is the best item in our dinner and is a typical Shanghai food.

Vegetarian Dumpling has a diameter of 7 cm.

Elegant tablewares.

It is full from 1745 onwards. The waitress is cleaning the table for us.

There is still flock of people when we leave at 2015.

Remarks:
1) No telephone booking, everybody has to queue up in person.
2) Tea charge per head is $9
3) For appetizer, it is $12 per dish. You may request not to have the appetizer. The bill would not include this $12 per dish. This is our recommendation.
4) You may request to buy the food menu at $150 each.
5) No free dessert is included.

We would like to try good food on holiday and finally decide to dine in Modern China Restaurant in Olympian City 2. In order to escape from the crowd, we queue up in person at 1715. After getting the ticket, we stroll around in the shopping mall. Our pink-colored ticket number for 4 persons is 21. The waitress politely informs us to return at about 1845. Of course, we would return a bit earlier than this time.

Before long, we are allotted to a table for 4 and order Oolong tea (totally there are 5 kinds of tea in the selection). The tea is slightly sweet and we do not think that there is any ginseng. Even though we inspect the tealeaf in the pot, there is only tealeaf and no ginseng.

We order 6 dishes, namely “Lanzhou” Tan Tan Noodle in Spicy Soup $22, Dumpling in Chili $32, Bean Curd Sheet with Young Cabbage $52, Five Spiced Sesame Chicken – Half $64, Braised Spare Rib with Special Vinegar $55, and Vegetarian Dumpling. The bill is $312 (average per head is $78).

“Lanzhou” Tan Tan Noodle in Spicy Soup is not big in portion. In view of its price $22, it is acceptable and each of us can share a small bowl. Taste is above average. In “Dumpling in Chili”, there are totally 10 pieces. The diameter of each dumpling is about 4 cm; this size is a bit bigger than the normal. I personally prefer those with smaller size in other restaurants. Fresh garlic paste would add flavor to the dumpling, in addition.

“Bean Curd Sheet with Young Cabbage” can maintain at higher standard. Besides, bean curd sheet is one of my favorite items in Shanghai cuisine. In “Five Spiced Sesame Chicken”, there is quite a lot of white sesame on chicken surface. Chicken is fresh and smell is alluring when it is served to us. It is wise to reduce the chicken from whole piece to a half, in order that we can try more other foods.

“Braised Spare Rib with Special Vinegar” takes a long time to cook and is the last item in our dinner. Out of expectation, it is the most delectable one. The rib should have been well prepared in sauces before it is cooked. It is hot, strong in taste, and has a mixture taste of sweet and sour. We agree to give 90 marks to the rib.

The foods are undoubtedly delicious, and maintained at high standard. We are unwilling to tell you that they have added MSG
to some of the foods. It is better than those restaurants that have added MSG to foods, but the foods are still not tasty.

Since there are a lot of customers waiting outside the restaurant, the waitresses would push us to leave softly and politely, and ask us whether there are any outstanding orders. We do not think that this is a big problem and are willingly leave at 2015.

To dine in such long-queued restaurant, my tip is to queue up earlier on holiday. This will reduce a lot the chance of grievance because of long waiting time, and save up our time a lot.
