Soaked Chicken w/Chinese Wine (Hua Tiao). Chicken is not fresh enough. Taste is passed. It is a disappointing signature item.
Shanghai Fried New Year Cake with vegetable and meat shreds is good in
taste. We have orderd the same one to take away for a friend nearby.
WuXi Spare Rib is not right in taste and color. It is the poorest rib ever.
Vegetable and preserved meat in soup in Chinese Pot is large in
portion. It includes vegetable, tofu, preserved meat and mushroom.
Pan-fried Dumpling Stuffed with Pork is tasty, not oily and not deeply fried.
Chui Kong Nam is a typical small restaurant.
It can serve 25 customers at the same time.

We
decide to lunch in Chui Kong Nam as it has an appearance of a typical
small restaurant. It can serve 25 customers at the same time. Besides,
decoration is not very beautiful but has its own character. Photos of
foods are stuck onto the wall ; this would be quite attractive to us.
When
we ask the waitress the signature dishes in this restaurant, she
introduces “Soaked Chicken w/Chinese Wine (Hua Tiao) $40” and “Shanghai
Fried New Year Cake with vegetable and meat shreds $38”. We follow her
introduction. We also order “WuXi Spare Rib $48”, “Vegetable and preserved meat in soup in Chinese
Pot $40”, and “Pan-fried Dumpling Stuffed with Pork $16”. The bill is
$230 (average per head is $50).
“Soaked
Chicken w/Chinese Wine (Hua Tiao)” has already been cooked and kept in
the fridge. Taste is passed but the chicken is not fresh enough. Though
it is claimed to be the signature item by the waitress, the chicken meat
is not acceptable. If it were really its signature item, this would ruin the restaurant.
“Shanghai
Fried New Year Cake with vegetable and meat shreds” is an item we do
not expect too much. But it is quite tasty that we order the same dish
to take away for a friend nearby. This Chinese New Year Cake should be
the best item in the lunch.
“WuXi
Spare Rib” is another disappointed item. The meat should also be frozen
one. Taste is not that of “Wuxi Spare Rib”. Cooking skill for the rib
is not qualified. We cannot understand why the boss has the courage to
start a restaurant of Shanghai food, if chicken and spare rib are not of above
average quality (we do not expect to have very high quality). About
half plate of meat is left.
“Vegetable
and preserved meat in soup in Chinese Pot” is of average quality. We
have finished the whole pot of vegetable and soup. It is quite
ridiculous that some items are poor but some items are delicious.
“Pan-fried Dumpling Stuffed with Pork ” is good, not oily and not deeply fried.
When we walk past “Lan Yuen Chee Koon” on the same street later, Lan
Yuen is full and some customers are waiting outside. This should be the
next trial in Mongkok. Forget “Chiu Kong Nam”, please.
