Soup
of Cabbage with Dried Scallop & Dried Duck Kidney $50. The soup,
not of very concentrated flavor, comes with a piece of cabbage, a piece
of dried scallop and several pieces of sliced kidney. Chinese soup in
Ser Wong Fun should have been over -praised by the media , I do not agree too much with its soup quality, not to mention whether it is overpriced or not.
Fried
Sparerib in Sweet & Sour Sauce is a failed and disappointed dish.
The sauce is too sour and the sparerib is not hot enough. The chef
should have not tried the sauce before mixing with the sparerib, or he
does not know the vinegar's intensity of sourness. We have eaten totally 3 pieces of sparerib, and left the
rest on the plate. This is a tragedy to such a "renowned" Chinese
restaurant.
Stir-fried
Eggs with Shrimps $95 is quite expensive in view of the food materials.
The main reason for us to order this dish is to test its cooking skill.
It is a dish familiar to all the locals in Hong Kong. Sorry, we expect it
is a fantastic dish in Ser Wong Fun beforehand. When it is served to
us, the portion is not small. There should be at least 5 pieces of egg
in this dish. In my first glance, the shrimps are not fresh and should
be those
prepared with soda powder. When I eat the first shrimp, it turns out to
be correct . For stir-fried eggs of $95 per plate, we do not expect
there are many pieces of shrimp, but I really do not expect the shrimps
are not
fresh (hope I do not expect too much in your mind). We are very
disappointed. Stir-fried eggs are anyway of good texture and taste. In
such a price ($95) and if no fresh shrimps can be served, it is better to tell us it is sold-out or not available today. This plate of egg is worth $60 only, at most.
Rice
in Clay Pot with Salty Fish & Minced Pork $85 is the best item in
the meal, it is also outstanding. Salty fish is of course of high
quality, though we have not eaten salty fish for a long time. Minced
pork is tender and juicy,
optimum amount of seasonings have been added. There is not much warbar
(crispy rice) on the inner base of clay pot; this is in fact what we
prefer. Though it is priced at $85, it is still a value for money item .

We
always heard that Ser Wong Fun (SWF) is a Chinese restaurant famous for
its Chinese soup and dish. We decide to have a direct encounter
tonight. SWF is decorated in Chinese style and gives us an impression
that it should be a restaurant of long history (maybe more than 20 years); surely it is not a shabby feeling.
The whole restaurant is full in dinnertime. Service is quite good, no
matter whether the servers are the bosses or uncle-styled waiters.
We
order a soup, a dish and rice in clay pot (earthen pot). The bill is
$265 (average per head $133). There is a difference between what we
experience and expect. In view of food quality, it is a bit overpriced . It does not deserve what it is praised by the media. Overall
speaking, SWF is only a Chinese style restaurant of long history and at
most average food quality in Central.
