Dong Po Pork
$58 is undoubtedly the representative in Hang Zhou Cuisine. We have not
tried it for a long time; it is time for us to try again. Additionally,
4 pieces of steamed bun $20 are ordered. When the pork is served to us
in a very mini clay pot, it has already been chopped into 4 small pieces
for easy handling and eating, and the alluring tasty smell comes into
our nose.
The pork skin is still intact, very tender and
bouncy. When Dong Po pork is put into the month, there is no greasy
feeling. Though Dong Po pork in Hong Zhou Restaurant is very delicious,
we still believe it is not the tastiest one in Hong Kong. For the
remaining sauce in the mini clay pot, it is of course better to be eaten
with the steamed bun. This enables us to enjoy of Dong Po sauce fully.
It
is the first time for us to try Pan-fried Pumpkin Cake $48. It is still
hot and a bit crispy on shredded pumpkin surface. This dish is a
nutritious one, as pumpkin is rich in Vitamin A. If it is a bit less
oily, it would be fantastic.
Hang Zhou Spinach in Broth $68 –
Spinach is not the species and of the length commonly available in Hong
Kong, it is imported directly from Hang Zhou. The length is about 3/4 of
those we normally eat. There are several pieces of preserved pork (ham)
on the top (but the color is lighter). Hang Zhou spinach is tender and
not old. The soup is not salty and we do not think that a lot of MSG has
been added.
Noodle in Soup with Baby Bamboo and Pork $48 is
introduced to us by a waitress. We do want to have a try after her
introduction. Soup and noodle match well with each other. Noodle texture
is already quite al dente in view of Chinese noodle.
A cute and lovely bottle of Chinese wine.

Remarks:
Hang
Zhou Restaurant (HZ) should be regarded as a rare species in Hong Kong
dining field. At the moment, apart from HZ to serve Hang Zhou cuisine,
there is still a leader (in terms of high price and high quality) in
Tsim Sha Tsui – Tin Heung Lau (天香樓).
HZ is a medium-sized Chinese
restaurant of succinct decoration. Tables are not too tightly aligned.
This gives us a leisure feeling. At the night we visit, diners are
mainly local people, but they do not speak in loud volume. Servers are
very nice and have good knowledge (taste and cooking method) of all
dishes in the menu. They also give us a good recommendation.
Tonight
we order 4 dishes only, the bill is $310 (average per head $155). Foods
are surely of original Hang Zhou style. We are contented to try Hang
Zhou food in Hong Kong at a reasonable price, and at a price very much
lower than that in Tin Heung Lau. But if comparing the same foods to
those in Shen Zhen, the price in HZ is about 30% higher. In my
experience, food quality in West Lake Spring Restaurant in Shen Zhen is a
bit higher as well.
