Braised
Pork w/ Preserved Vegetable (梅菜扣肉) is heavenly delicious, impeccable
and outstanding . Though the color of the whole dish is quite dark, it
is anyway not salty, but has a well balance of seasonings. On the other
hand, the seasonings have not covered the taste of pork and particularly the
fragrant flavor of fat. Pork and preserved vegetable are perfect match.
Steamed Pomfret Fish w/ Garlic & Preserved Black Bean Paste is
steamed in the usual way. Its taste is within our expectation and it has
not been overcooked.
We request to add less oil in cooking this vegetable. It turns to be so.

Chui
King Lau Restaurant (CKL) is an old restaurant group serving Hakka
cuisine in Hong Kong for a long time. Food quality of signature dishes
is outstanding, and price is reasonable. It (this branch in Wanchai, but
not others) should be a representative restaurant of Hakka cuisine in Hong Kong.
We
have not dined in CKL for many years, since the food quality is not
stable in our experience. If not because of the recommendation by CEO,
we would not try in Wanchai CKL. CKL is a Chinese restaurant without
splendid decoration, we really do not know more tables are available on the first floor.
We
have not ordered the dinner set for 2, instead we order 3 dishes
altogether. The bill is $240 (average per head $120). Motive of the
dinner is Braised Pork w/ Preserved Vegetable, which is highly
recommended by CEO. It is really one
of the signature dishes in CKL and is even better in quality and taste
than that in Chuen Cheung Kui. It is heavenly delicious and impeccable .
This is not a coincidence or the result of just adding sufficient
amount of msg. It should be the synergistic effect of sophisticated cooking skill, quality food material and
experience. I suggest without hesitation for you to try this outstanding
Hakka cuisine of pork.
