Roast Goose has to be ordered in advance. Most signature items in Yuen Hing are limited in quantity. The goose is freshly roasted. If the taste is not too awful, it would normally be tasty. Luckily, this goose is delectable.


Grilled Eel is served on a plastic plate. It is fresh and freshly grilled. It is one of the best dishes in this meal. The price is HK$160, I guess this should be a bit pricey.


Braised Pig Knuckle has been cooked for more than three hours, I guess. The meat is tender enough, while the taste is good and strong enough.



Rice is very average only.

For quality Chinese eateries, a bowl of rice in high standard is needed, in my mind. But this not so in Yuen Hing.

It is said that Yuen Hing is professional in roast goose. We arrange an opportunity to have a try. We of course would make reservation. The eatery is inside a wet market, it should be the reason of comparatively lower rental and closer to the food material market. We order goose and eel in advance. We do not know there are not many to choose at night. We can only additionally add one pork knuckle and one more vegetable.

 

Frankly speaking, its roast goose is of high quality, mainly because it is freshly roasted. Tastewise, some other eateries should be superior. Grilled eel is also delectable and it is not commonly found in the market. I guess the chef should be very confident in cooking this dish. A pity is that it is priced at one hundred and sixty for eight pieces, it should be very profiteering, I do not think cost of good quality eel is very high to such a level.

 

Besides the signature goose and eel, the others are very average. Two dishes of vegetable are just average in view of selection of food material and cooking skill. This means the chefs are good at several dishes only, from other experience in this meal.

 

One more point to mention is that its rice seems not to be freshly cooked for dinner and it is very loosened, it may be the leftover of lunchtime or it is of low cost and they are cheated or do not know how to select better quality rice at the same price. To compare with the rice of Taste of Taste in Lai Chi Kok Road, Yuen Hing should be profiteering. Once again, profiteering has been used two times in this record.

 

Another problem in Yuen Hing is that it is in a mess in the serving of dishes, mainly because there is not sufficient number of servers, resulting that all tables are waiting for food and no one is responsible for taking care of orders and diners. Some diners are waiting outside and inside the shop, but the shop is not large. The customer flow is very very slow. This must both affect the image on diners and its turnover ultimately. It is not easy to rectify the situation. No one would be good at all aspects. If so, the world is even unfair.
