Congee City of Bright should be a top class restaurant in Hezhou. It is anyway a small city of one hundred thousand population.
Upper:
Grilled Pig Penis; Lower: Grilled Mutton. If it is not mentioned it is
pig penis, it is not easy to know what it is. Its texture is in fact
similar to that of other meat. It is ordered for fun only. Grilleed mutton is quite delicious, they are professional to grill mutton in the mainland.
We
do not expect 'Fried Eggplant' would be presented in such a simple
manner. It is anyway accepted and we do not have any complaint on the
presentation. In view of taste, it is normal and not bad as there is
plenty of deep- fried garlic on the top. It is anyway a bit oily for all eggplant dishes.
Vegetables Claypot is nicely presented. Red kidney bean, taro, lily,
broccoli and papaya are cooked with coconut milk. It is a healthy and
nutritive dish, it is rich in fibre too.
Vegetarian Congee is a refreshing and natural item, no msg has been
added. This is not expected msg has not been added in a restaurant in
the mainland. Corn, papay and taro can be found.
'Congee of Lean & Thousand Year Egg' is a delicious item. Both
congees are small-sized. We do not know how to finish the congee of
large-sized claypot. Maybe, that large-sized is for a table of twelve
persons.
Pan-fried Vegetarian Dumplings are served in claypot with sliced
onion on the bottom. We are pleased to have ordered this palatable dim
sum and each piece is not large in size.
Fried Golden Cake is a dessert commonly available in the mainland. It
is stuffed with lotus paste & peanut. This dessert is a bit above
average as we do not like oily stuffs. It is a good try of this special
dessert in our leisure travel.

City of Bright in Hezhou should be similar to the Peninsula in Hong
Kong . We find no reason not to visit at least once. We intentionally
eat less in dinner and leave space in the stomach for the supper. The
restaurant has high ceiling and is decorated in a modern manner. To our surprise, waiters use electronic ordering instrument to key in our order.
In
a claimed to be congee city, it is a must to order congee, we have
ordered two flavours. We also order several other dishes. Congee is for
sure in very high quality and deserved to be the signature item. Other
dishes are not correspondingly at
similar high level. In other words, other dishes are very average. In
our observation, local diners are mostly those higher income groups.
They are repeating the story of eating at night in Hong Kong twenty
years before. If you visit Hezhou in Guangxi one day, this is a must try restaurant during dinnertime or suppertime.
