This
is a fresh chicken, but not chilled or frozen. Skin is thin and there
is no jelly fat between skin and meat layers. Meat is naturally bouncy,
juicy, and rich in chicken flavour. It is therefore needed to take three
photos of this signature chicken. There is no need to dip any soy sauce or
maggisauce. If not, it is not possible to taste the natural flavour of
chicken.
We
are lucky to have met Xiguan(West Gate) Food Festival in Guangzhou.
Before our visit, we do not know there is such a festival in Xiguan (not
Kansai, please do not mix up, Kansai is a region in Honshu, Japan. ).
Wenji Yixinji (Wenji Chicken) is a very famous restaurant in Xiguan
(West Gate) area. Particularly at dinnertime, to queue up for half an
hour to one hour is a commonplace.
We only order signature dishes. Signature Soup is served in claypot.
It is boiled from black eye bean, peanut, pork, chicken feet and lotus
root. It is tasty naturally.
Braised Sparerib & Sweet Potato in Red Date (Jujube) Sauce. FYI, red date (jujube) is good for spleen.
Both
sparerib and sweet potato have been slightly fried before it is braised
with red date sauce. It is the first time for us to try this
combination of food materials and sauce. It is naturally sweet and
palatable. Sweet potato chips are chewy and spareribs are not tough. No meat tenderizer has been added, for sure.
We have ordered a whole piece of Signature Yixinji (Signature
Chicken). it is served with several small plates of ginger & spring
onion paste. Chicken size is not very large, but this is the size we
prefer.
The yellow colour is natural, impressive and alluring.
Fried Vegetable w/ Fermented Beancurd Sauce is also cooked with quality.
This is Bao Hua Road and is quite like a street in Seoul, South Korea.

To
try fresh chicken with good texture, it is not easy or possible to find
in Hong Kong. But there is still chance to try it in Guangdong Province
in PRC. We are lucky to visit Guangzhou today and dine in a famous
Chicken restaurant in Xiguan (West Gate).
We
order three signature dishes and one vegetable. Average spending is
only RMB50, this is a not-possible meal in Hong Kong. It is beyond our
expectation that all signature dishes deserve to be so. They are of high
standard and really very tasty. We are particularly pleased to have tried a very delicious chicken
with natural meat texture and flavour, to fill up the gap of fresh
chicken in our stomach and mind.
