This is the entrance of dining room, there are several VIP rooms inside.
"Braised Common Carp w/ Chili Sauce" is a special dish in Ji'an, Jilin
Province. This fish has about 4 catties, and the smallest one for our
selection is 3 catties. This portion is sufficient for a group of
persons.
This
dish is to cook fresh Common Carp (鯉魚) with green onion, sliced
ginger and thick bean chili sauce. The taste is a bit stronger, this is
the taste commonly in China's Northeast. Common Carp is fresh, the meat
is bouncy. The meat is still intact.
Several Common Carps would be braised together in a big wok.
Braised
Chicken w/ Mushroom. We order half chicken but it is already large
enough. The taste is very acceptable to us. Mushroom and green bean
noodle are delicious as they have already absorbed the taste from sauce
and chicken. Mushroom is quite commonly available in the Northeast.
'Stir-fried Mushroom' is light in taste and soft enough, as we have
also informed them to cook our dishes with less oil, salt and msg.
Fried Chinese Cabbage w/ Mushroom. Mushroom is a common food material in Ji'an.
Steamed Dumplings are good in appearance. The skin is a bit thick and
it is stuffed with meat and vegetable. But it is not very tasty in our
sense.
Steamed Sweet Potato and Taro. Taro is not in good quality and should be skipped.
Shrimp Paste and Tofu in soup (蝦膏豆腐湯) is also a special dish in Ji'an.
But it is not acceptable to most of us, shrimp paste has a very special
smell.

Yi
Sao Restaurant (YS) is a restaurant quite close to Yalu River 鴨綠江(about
2 minutes). It is not a very big restaurant, and can serve about 50
diners at the same time. Normally each table is served in a VIP room. In view of local restaurants in Ji'an, YS is a restaurant of good hygiene. Waitresses are helpful and courteous.
Common
Carp, caught in Yalu River, is of length ~12 inches and weight 3–4
catties (RMB30 per catty). Since we seldom travel to China's Northeast,
it is therefore a must to try the signature dish in Jilin Province. The
chef would cook several Common Carps together in a big wok. Common Carp is
fresh, the meat is bouncy. Seasonings are a bit strong and this is the
flavor in China's Northeast.
Altogether we order 6 dishes and a soup, they are surely sufficient to
us. Food portion is generally very large in Northeast. Dishes are
generally tasty. It is a valuable experience to try these dishes in
Ji'an, particularly the braised Common Carp.
