Pyongyang Cold Soba (平壤冷面 RMB20) should be a bit expensive in Dan
Dong. Average spending of the locals per meal in Dan Dong should be
about RMB10 only.
This
copper bowl serves soba of 200g, kimchi, green cucumber, a piece of
pear and sliced pork. This is already a portion sufficient to an
adult. The clear soup is tasty, prepared and boiled from chicken, beef
and pork. The procedure should be to try the soba with clear soup first, then soba with chili sauce,
and soba with wasabi sauce (to be served separately) finally. You will
have different kinds of satisfaction. The soba is soft but al dente.
Seaweed Rice Roll (RMB10) is in fact sushi roll. There is no meat in
the roll. The stuffed items include egg, green cucumber and red pepper.
The quality is average only (can be noticed from the picture).
The
restaurant is quite big. Apart from the area on ground floor, there are
vip rooms on the first floor. It is quite a spacious restaurant. The
building in the photo is Pyongyang Koryo Hotel in Pyongyang (North
Korea). This means this restaurant is a branch in Dan Dong, Liao Ning, China (this has been confirmed by
the waitress). We therefore have confidence on the food quality and
originality.
Waitresses are nice and courteous. Some of them are from North Korea.
Pyongyang Koryo Hotel Restaurant is not located in the main street in
Shenyang, Liaoning, PRC. It is easy to be skipped. In the signboard, we
can also find the building of Pyongyang Koryo Hotel in Pyongyang, North
Korea.

This
is the last meal before we head to the airport. We do not have any
clue. Suddenly we see the signboard of a Korean-like restaurant at the
opposite end of the street. Dan Dong is a small city in Liao Ning
Province, a lot of Korean people stay in Dan Dong. Korean food should be a good choice to us.
Pyongyang
Koryo Hotel Restaurant (PKH) is not a small one. Each table is isolated
in a partition. Decoration is not particularly splendid. Since it is
quite spacious, it is not a noisy dining environment even though it is
full house. We notice there is significant number of diners from the North Korea.
We
are not very hungry and we only want to try Pyongyang cold noodle again
(after the unforgettable experience in Pyongyang ), as we believe the
cold noodle in Dan Dong should be very original. Pricing is a bit
expensive, in comparison with the general food price
level in Dan Dong. After 15 minutes, the noodles and sushi are served
to us. We are delighted the cold noodle is as delicious as the one we
have in Pyongyang, but the price is only one fourth. Dining environment
and food presentation are musts to be taken into account, at any rate.
