Minced Beef Congee. We need to wait for more than 10 minutes before it is served to us. The minced beef will be fully cooked later.

White Spotted Rabbitfish Congee

White Spotted Rabbitfish is taken out from the congee, in order not to over-cook the fish meat. The meat is fresh and tender. These are only 2 pieces. Total length is about 7 inches.

Leung Kee Congee is next to Tong Kee Shanghai Noodle. You may try Pork Chop Shanghai Noodle and congee together.

There are a lot of Dai Pai Dongs on 2/F of Tai Po Cooked Food Centre.

We arrive at 1015 and have our brunch of congee in Leung Kee. It is not so crowded though all tables are occupied. We immediately order 3 plates of foods – "BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll $11", "Fried noodle in soy sauce $6", and "Fried Bread Stick in Rice Noodle Roll $7", and 2 bowls of congee - "Minced Beef congee $11" and "White Spotted Rabbitfish congee $18". The waitress recommends us to order White Spotted Rabbitfish congee. We have query but finally still accept her recommendation. The bill is $53 (average $27).

It is the first time to have an experience that we need to wait for more than 10 minutes before the congees are served to us, since there are a lot of congee orders to be processed. This implies that the congees (except the congee base) are not prepared in advance. In fact, we have finished all other foods before the congees are served to our table.

"BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll" and "Fried Bread Stick in Rice Noodle Roll" are readily prepared. They are warm and not oily. The fried bread stick is still crispy and this is praise-worthy. "Fried noodle in soy sauce" is only standard in terms of taste and quality. I would evaluate the food higher if it is not oily and less MSG has been added. This is evidenced in other comments in my blog.

Minced Beef is also just fully cooked, fresh and delicious. White Spotted Rabbitfish is sliced and big in size, and has about 7 inches in length. The second thing to praise is that when the Rabbitfish congee is served with an empty plate, the waitress reminds us to take out the fish from the congee immediately, in order that the fish meat would not be over-cooked by the heat of congee. Basically, I do not like Rabbitfish of such big size. I only prefer those with length of about 3 inches. When the congee is served to us and we realize the fish is of big size, we have no choice already. Out of expectation, the Rabbitfish is fresh and the meat is very very tender. I understand it is really needed to have more than 10 minutes to prepare the congees for us.

Regarding the congee base of Leung Kee, bean curd sheet has not yet been added to increase the creaminess of congee (King Lee Congee in Wanchai has added bean curd sheet to congee base, even though the congee is priced at $35 or above per bowl.). This is highly appreciated. To compare the congees I have tried in Hong Kong, I still prefer the one from Sang Kee in Sheung Wan. Congee of Sang Kee is the best in quality in all aspects, though I may have bias. This does not mean that congee of Leung Kee is not good. In fact, it is already very good.

Besides those available in Leung Kee, customers can buy their preferred seafood from the market on the first floor. Leung Kee would cook the seafood with the congee base and only charge $25.
