Jao Tsung-I Academy 饒宗頤文化館 @ Lai Chi Kok 荔枝角

Formerly known as Lai Chi Kok Hospital (荔枝角醫院) which was founded in 1938, Jao Tsung-I Academy is a Grade III historical building in Hong Kong. The first phase was open to the public in 2012, while the second phase in 2013. The whole rehabilitation project cost HK$200M, borne by the Hong Kong Government. The Academy is to provide Chinese culture education. Thereafter, it is self-financing. Its income is generated from hostel and restaurant operations.



The brick red houses are of British construction style.


The Academy covers about 32,000 square meters, and is divided into upper, middle and lower area. It has galleries and conservation museum to attract visitors. School tours are always welcome.


The Ginkgo Restaurant (銀杏館) is in service in 2014, providing catering service.


Free public access is allowed to the Chinese landscaped gardens, conservation gallery and a heritage gallery.


This is the middle area.


Ginkgo Restaurant is on the middle area, lift is available from the lower area (ground level).


Alfreso dining is available.


With 85 guest rooms, the youth hostel can serve 180 places.

Guided tour is available on weekdays.

No matter whether you like Chinese culture, it must be a nice visit to Jao Tsung-I Academy. You may dine in Ginkgo Restaurant, it serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. You may also take photos in the Academy, it is like a modern antique castle. Or, just to walk around without any special purpose is also ok.
