Tin Hau Temple is mostly worshipped by fishermen and was
built near the sea. In Tai O, there are two Tin Hau Temples. This one is
located at Kat Hing Back Street (吉慶後街), whereas the other is located at Tai O
San Tsuen (大澳新村).
This Tin Hau Temple was constructed in 1820, it has a history of 194 years in 2014. It is in fact adjacent to and side by side with Kwan Tai Temple (關帝古廟), but the Kwan Tai Temple is much larger in size, occupying an area about three times larger.
Because of regular maintenance, the outlook is not shabby and it is still intact. It does give me a very good impression. Inside the temple, every aspect is evidence of its long history, namely the main altar, the bronze bell, the floor tiles, its colour and overall feeling. Large scale renovation of the temple was done in 1987. After that, there must be regular and continuous small maintenance works.
