The former Shuen Wan Temple, located at Tung Tsz (洞梓) in Tai Po (大埔), was built in Qing Dynasty, more than 300 years ago. It was damaged by a typhoon in 1936. Until 2002, villagers raised fund and re-built the temple. The total expenditure was HK$8 Millions. It took about ten years for the complete construction of three temples.

Shuen Wan Temple is composed of three individual temples, mainly Hip Tin Kung (協天宮)、Tin Hau Kung (天后宮) and Kung Sheng Kung (孔聖宮), worshiping Kwan Yu (關羽), Tin Hau (天后) and Confucius (孔子) respectively, for the hope of favorable weather, timely wind and rain, and better education to children. For the three temples, Hip Tin Kung is in the middle. On the day of the grand opening ceremony in 2012, about 500 villagers attended and lunched together in the big bowl feast (poon choi, 盆菜).

Shuen Wan Temple is composed of three temples.

Hip Tin Kung (Hip Tin Temple)

Worshiping Kwan Yu (關羽)

Tin Hau (天后)

Confucius (孔子)

This new temple has only one year history, every part is still in very good condition.

Overlooking the standing Kwun Yam Statue of Tsz Shan Monastery (慈山寺), it is to be opened in 2013. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsz_Shan_Monastery

Shuen Wan Temple is a bit far away. We also would not visit this temple as the only item in a day. But to be one of the items in the itinerary, it must be a bonus of a day. The temple is new and still very splendid. We are lucky to see how a new temple looks like. You should not miss this temple if you visit Tai Po or Tai Mei Tuk next time.
