Blue taxi, there are only 75 taxis in Lantau Island
#Lantau taxi, commonly known as blue taxi, blue lantern, smurf or island taxi, is named after its body painted sky blue. Lantau taxis can only operate on Lantau Island and Chek Lap Kok (including Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port, Hong Kong Disneyland, Discovery Bay North Shopping Mall and Discovery Bay Hotel). Short-distance fares are the lowest of the three types of taxis, and the highest in long-distance fares. Since there are still many remote places in Lantau Island that are not connected by driving roads (including: Fan Lau, Chi Ma Wan Peninsula, Yi O, Kau Ling Chung, Tsin Yue Wan and Sha Lo Wan, etc.), the demand for taxis is low. Currently, there are only 75 taxis.
Lantau taxis are not allowed to carry passengers outside Lantau Island and Chek Lap Kok. Lantau taxis that have not paid the urban license fee (i.e. have a green slash on the license plate on the windshield) are not allowed to leave Lantau Island unless they obtain written approval from the Transport Department. If you go to areas outside Lantau Island for maintenance, inspection or vehicle inspection, you need to make an appointment with the relevant place, and have the relevant appointment certificate for reference when leaving Lantau Island. The whole journey is limited to the driver and one passenger.
