About 160 million years to 140 million years ago, Hong Kong was influenced by volcanic activities.
Volcanoes spewed out hugh amount of volcanic materials, included rock debris and volcanic ashes. Those materials directly fell into surrounding lakes or were transported by water with sand and mud to lowland, eventually consolidated into clearly stratified sedimentary rocks in Lai Chi Chong. Such rocks are known as volcanic sedimentary rocks, which are rare in Hong Kong, best exposed in Lai Chi Chong.
In Lai Chi Chong, it is mainly to see sedimentary rocks and geologic structure.
The total length of the trail is 0.5 km only. It is suggested to spend one hour in the trail.
I like such photo very much.
This layered rock is rare in Hong Kong and can only be found in Lai Chi Chong.
